Quiet Fire-Self Portrait

Back in 2005 I graduated from massage school. It was an awesome experience that lasted over the course of a year. At my graduation ceremony some of classmates handed out these handmade charms and this was the one that was made especially for me. I keep this by my bedside all the time. I love it and I think it sums me up pretty accurately.

Twine Bitches!

I'm not sure if it's technically twine, but that's what I like to call it. I was going to use it for necklaces making, but I'm finding it doesn't work so well. So far I've only used it to attach pendants to the necklace string.

Beginner Goddess Bracelet-Oshun

This is another bracelet I made to go along with my Oshun necklace. It took a couple of days and losing beads twice to get it done. In the end, it turns out to be way to big for my arm. I'm still proud of it though.

Pulled out before its time

CraigiePoo is growing vegetables on our balcony. I'm not sure why, but this carrot was pulled out of the soil too early. I think it's edible. Kinda scary looking. I'm sure there's a fetus joke running around my brain, but that's going too far even for me.

Or is it?

Beginner Goddess Earrings-Oya

I designed the earrings, but CraigiePoo actually did the attaching of the bead strands onto the wire. I just couldn't figure that part out. She's crafty that way. Must be a Midwestern thing. She seems to know how to do a lot of random craftiness.

Beginner Goddess Bracelet-Oya

My second bracelet in my beginner Orisha bracelet trilogy. This is representational of Oya. She has been really calling me heavily the past few months. I've found it quite frustrating that I can't find a lot of information about her. She's almost like the forgotten Orisha. The information I do find on her is sometimes conflicting. Some say her colors are white and red, others say brown and red, or maroon, wine, etc. I've chosen to use red and brown with a little tiny bit of purple for this necklace.

Beginner Goddess Necklace-Yemaya

This is another necklace I've created. It's the first of three I'm planning to make. The main reason I started to explore jewelry making was because I couldn't find the right necklace. It's a long story that I'll go into one day soon.

I've been reading a lot lately about the Yoruba Orisha's. This necklace is my first attempt at making neck ware that is representational of the Yemaya-the orisha who rules the sea.

This my third necklace. I'm kinda impressed with myself. Once again, we spent an afternoon in the craft store on Saturday and bought a bunch of stuff. I fell in love with this pendant. An entire year without a cleaning

I hadn't cleaned my car since last year around this same time. I washed it right before our wedding. I just don't have the energy to do it on a regular basis. This is what a tire looks like after not seeing soap in a year. I tend to let the rain take care of the cleaning for me.

I'm Strange & Crafty

I'm aspiring to be crafty. I've been looking to purchase some new jewelry and I haven't been able to find exactly what I want so I've decided to make my own. I've only made one piece so far, a necklace. I'm quite proud of myself. I will post a picture as soon. These are just some of the starting pieces I'm working with. I can tell you this though. Just like photography, I can see myself spending a lot of money on this hobby. Why, oh why, can't I have inexpensive hobbies?

Let's Get Physical, Physical. I wanna get Physical

So last month I went to the doctor for my annual physical. I was surprised to learn that I wasn't the weight that I had thought I was. I had actually lost some weight since the last time I had gone to the doctor, early in 2009. I went back to the doctor for a follow up appointment last. Somehow in a month, I managed to gain 6lbs!!!

CraigiePoo found the weights, pulled them out of the closet and brought them into the living room. Now it's just a matter of actually picking them up and use them.

I woke craving watermelon. I was hoping I wouldn't have to leave the house today since it's technically a holiday, but the craving wouldn't cease. Mama's Got a Brand New Toy!

I have, for years, wanted to learn to the guitar. I tried about 10 years ago to learn, enrolled in a class at the community college, and quickly dropped out. The class had damn near 40 people! I need a little bit more one on one than the class allowed. CraigiePoo and I went to the flea market today and I found this beauty. CraigiePoo talked the merchant down from $35 to $30. Add that to the cost of new strings and a tuner, if it doesn't work out this time I've only spent $50.

I'm not quite sure what I should call her. I'm thinking either Blue Bella or Blue Betty. I can't decided. Maybe Bella Bluetone or Betty Blue. I don't know. What y'all think?

The Oscar Grant/Johannes Mehserle trial is wrapping up this week and a verdict is expected to come down real soon. Many in my great city of Oakland are anticipating violence in the even that a "not guilty" verdict comes down and Mehserle goes free. I'm hoping that, whatever the verdict is, my fellow Oakland people will remain calm and remember that any damage we do to our city only hurts us.
