Fresh from somebody's tree

Someone at the plantation put a huge bowl of these delicious treats yesterday. Another thing I like about summer is plums. These were the perfect combination of tart and sweet. They were really juicy too.

One of the best things about summertime

I woke craving watermelon. I was hoping I wouldn't have to leave the house today since it's technically a holiday, but the craving wouldn't cease. So, I put on my bra and went down to my nearby grocery store. Too many damn people for my taste. I got my watermelon. It wasn't the best, but it satisfied the craving.

Preparing for the Storm

The Oscar Grant/Johannes Mehserle trial is wrapping up this week and a verdict is expected to come down real soon. Many in my great city of Oakland are anticipating violence in the even that a "not guilty" verdict comes down and Mehserle goes free. I'm hoping that, whatever the verdict is, my fellow Oakland people will remain calm and remember that any damage we do to our city only hurts us.

Minty Good

In case you haven't heard, it's officially summer here in the Bay Area. It's hot, windows are open 24 hours a day, and cold, delicious treats are out in full tempting folk. I even shaved my legs this morning in anticipation of having to wear a skirt to beat the heat. We went to the grocery store today and our cart was full of mainly things to drink and ice cream. These Safeway cups of ice cream were on sale for $.49. Score!

By the way, I did wear a skirt. I need to get more sun on my legs. For a black chick, my legs are pale as a ghost.
