More Edamame and a Macro lens

So I finally decided to purchase the Canon 100mm macro lens that I have seriously been wanting for months and months now. I have been in love with this lens since I first saw it last year. I had to have it, but kept saying I would wait. I couldn't wait anymore. I ordered it yesterday from Amazon and it arrived today. This was the first thing I shot with it. I'm going to be on a macro shooting roll this weekend. Cannot wait.

I'm still learning my way around my new 50mm lens. I like that I can shoot in damn near darkness since it's such a fast lens. I just need to learn to choose a smaller aperture when I'm in a brightly lit room or sitting right next window, which was the case with this photo.

This plant reminds of man-eating plant in the movie Little Shop of Horrors. It's got a thin, curly tongue and hairy leaves. I'm pretty sure if I was willing to get closer I would have discovered teeth. Fortunately, I'm smart enough not to act like the stupid girl in the horror movies who decides to go searching for things that go bump in the night. I didn't bother it and it didn't bother me.

Nifty-Fifty in Green

I finally went out and purchased the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. It's a $100 lens that everyone raves about. It's supposed to really great in low light and for shooting portraits. We got home late and I didn't have much time to play with it before the sun went down. I snapped this photo of one of CraigiePoo's plants. I think they lens will take some getting used to. It makes a lot of noise when it's trying to focus. I'm really hoping that's just the design of the lens and not that this particular lens is defective. I hate having to return stuff.

I took this photo and it was a just a bit...blah. I didn't really like it much once it was out of the camera on my computer. I'm still trying to get the hang of my new point and shoot camera (I had to return that Nikon that I had been lusting after). The new camera is a Canon PowerShot. The macro feature and I are not getting along too well. I'll just have to keep practicing.

I just played around with the colors and did some cropping to get what you see here.

I think my next photographic goal is to figure out how to correct specific parts of an image. I set the camera on aperture priority, but forgot to shoot at smaller f-stop which explains why the sky is so overexposed. Oh well. It happens.

German Chocolate Cupcakes

CraigiePoo whipped up these delicious cupcakes this afternoon. They were the perfect after work snack. Those naked cupcakes in the background are actually the ones I ate. As much as I tried I just couldn't bring myself to eat the cupcakes with frosting. There's coconut in the frosting. I have a thing with shredded coconut.

I don't like it. I don't eat it. I also don't like pulp in my orange juice. It's my thing.

I was just about to zip up my fancy boots when I noticed the red of my socks against the blue of my jeans and the brown of my shoes. I thought it was kinda neat.
